Model United Nations

Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda.

The participants role-play as diplomats representing a country or NGO in a simulated session of an (committee) of the United Nations, such as the Security Council or the General Assembly. Participants research a country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to world problems.

Model United Nations conferences are a way of understanding International relations and appreciating the spirit of debate.
The heated debates and committee sessions grant students a better understanding of the growing international network and a new appreciation for international interaction and communication.

I had the privilege of of organizing two Model UN conferences at my colleges.  The first one hosted 70 delegates deliberating on ways to attain Sustainable Development while the second focused on Desertification.
